John Gregg Elementary November 2011
Message from the Principal:
It’s hard to believe that November is already here and we are thinking about the holidays. The teachers are working very hard to ensure that all of our students are working to their potential. Various programs are being offered to our students to help them improve their academic and social skills.
The after school program for students in K-3rd is being offered on Tuesday and Thursday of each week. The students who attend will receive help with Reading and Math skills.
The Family Literacy Program for students in PS and Kindergarten is currently scheduled every two weeks. During this program the students and their families work together to develop literacy skills. The program is scheduled from 11:00-1:00. The families have lunch with their child, receive reading instruction and share their reading with their children. Please consider signing up for the program.
We implemented the OLWEUS Bullying Prevention Program for all of the students in our school. The students are receiving class instruction with group discussions to help them understand how we can prevent bullying.
We enjoyed an assembly by the POWER TEAM recently. The students were presented with an inspirational and motivating message through power activities.
Mrs. Swartz is managing our Coats for Kids Program. She will develop a list of names of families who receive vouchers.
We recognized Fire Prevention Week with a visit from John Marsh, Bergholz Fire Chief. The Fire Chief reviewed fire safety rules, presented the students with hats and a tour of the fire truck. The students enjoyed the visit and learned various safety rules.
The PTO sponsored a Halloween Dance for the students in 5thand 6thgrades. The students enjoyed snacks and dancing to the music by DJ Rodney Baker. I would like to thank the students for making this event enjoyable.
A special thank you goes out to Mayor Jeff Stone and Bick Starn from Bergholz for working on our basketball area. They painted, sealed cracks, and replaced the rim.
The parents have been working hard to provide various activities for the students. The Festival in the Woods (volunteers recognized on following page), Halloween Dance, popcorn and bookstore are just a few of the PTO projects offered. Thanks so much for supporting our students and staff.
